Chapter-3: Materials and Methods

3.1. General

The field study '"Present Management and Production Status of Pirgacha Rubber Garden, Madhupur, Tangail '' was carried out during the period of May to July 2009. The study was based on both primary and secondary data.

3.2. Selection of the study area

There are 16 governmental rubber estates in three different zones of Bangladesh, i.e. seven is located in Chittagong Zone, four in Sylhet Zone and five in Madhupur Zone. From Mahdhupur Pirgacha Rubber Garden is selected purposively for the study.

3.3. Reconnaissance survey

Before final survey a reconnaissance survey was conducted to get clear idea about the garden to prepare the questionnaire and to fix the objectives of my study. At this stage informal discussion was held with the Manager Mr. Sofiuddin Ahmed, Assistant manager Mr. Hasnain, and one of the field supervisors of the garden.

3.4. Collection of primary data

All relevant primary data were collected through field survey using the prepared semi structured questionnaire which includes questions about the plantation, management and the production system of the garden. Face to face communication method was applied during interview.

3.5. Collection of secondary data

Secondary data which are relevant to my paper was collected from different sources such as different books, articles, journals research papers from seminar library and from internet.

3.6. Sorting of data

Finally all the information gathered from they were analyze carefully. All the secondary data were sorted carefully and then only the necessary and relevant information were set aside for compilation and analysis to avoid unnecessary bulk of the paper is done.

3.7. Compilation and analysis of data

The data, collected from the filed are sorted out to prepare meaningful main data sheet converted into convenient forms as used in the result and discussion section subsequently. After sorting, data were compiled and then analyzed them through statistically and graphically with the aid of calculator and some computer programs such as MS-Word, MS-Excel etc to have the outcome of data.
