Chapter five

Problems, Recommendations and conclusion

5.1 Problems

Problems for the biodiversity conservation and ecotourism development of Tilaghor Eco-park, Sylhet are the following:

  1. Tilaghor Eco-park, Sylhet was declared as an Eco-park 2006 but still this area is not taken under park management.
  2. Tourist facilities are not sufficient.
  3. Security system are not sufficient
  4. Soil erosion occur very much
  5. To manage the park, man power is very limited.
  6. Plantation authority can be selected through tender.
  7. No boundary is present.
  8. Housing problem for staff
  9. Encroachment of forest land

10. Documents are not present properly

11.Illicit felling

5.2 Recommendations:

Recommendations for the biodiversity conservation and ecotourism development of the study area are the following:

  1. As early as possible the Eco-park should managed under park management
  2. Adequate protective measures should be taken to conserve the biodiversity of the area.
  3. In areas where regenerations are poor ecologically valuable and aesthetically important species should be introduced.
  4. Awareness should be created among the local people about the importance of conservation of biodiversity.
  5. Different research project should be undertaken to determine the strategy and requirements of biodiversity conservation of the area.
  6. It is well known that each species has a specific environment requirement and certain dependencies of other species. The interactions and interdependencies among various species of the area need to study more closely for developing an appropriate strategy for their conservation
  7. To set up children park/children corner.
  8. Aesthetical beautiful place must be created like Rose garden etc.
  9. Picnic spot must be created

10.Cafeteria must be created

11.Gate must be created to earn revenue.

12.Safety post must be created to protect Illicit felling and to give sefty to the tourist.

13. Rest house must be created for tourist.

5.3 Conclusion

Biological diversity is crucial for the survival and progress of nature and humanity. Biological diversity provides resources for food, construction and raw materials for industry. It provides the basis for improvement of the domiscated species; maintains functions of the ecosystems, including evolutionary processes; stores and cycles nutrients essentials for life; absorbs and breakdown pollutants, including organic waste, pesticides, and heavy metals; recharge ground water, protects catchments basins, and buffers extreme water conditions; and produces soils and protects it from excessive erosion. And Eco-park is a source which helps to conserve and maintain biodiversity. There is a great potential in Bangladesh for biodiversity based sustainable development. And Tilagarh Eco-park is such type park by which Bangladesh earn a lot of money.
