Resources

Total area of Khadimnagar National Park is 1676.73 acres. The biodiversity of the forest was rich in early times, but it is in danger now due to the destruction of the natural forest by over extraction and so on. Now in this situation, there are still 217 plant species, 26 species of mammal, 20 species of amphibians, 9 species of reptiles and 28 species of birds living in this forest.

4.1.1 Timber resources:

This forest is deciduous in nature. Plantation was started in Khadimnagar reserve forest since 1961. In early times, the forest was mostly covered with Pecha bamboo, which was gradually felled and substituted by tree plantations from 1960s to give a tropical forest look. The natural forest was thus gradually converted into plantation forest by planting with various species.

4.1.2 Participatory forest:

In the Khadimnagar National Park, a participatory forest was established by the participation of the local people and the government. It was established in 2007-08. The planting material was Agor (Acquilaria agallocha). It was established on 20 hectares of land.

4.1.3 Bamboo:

Khadimnagar National Park is rich with bamboo resources. It was established in 1988 on an area of 40 acres. Major bamboo species planted were Mitinga (Bambusa tulda), Pencha (Dendrocalamus hamaoltoni), Kali (Oxytenenthera nigriciliata) and Pechel (Bambusa nutans). Pencha Bansh is the only bamboo species occurring naturally in Khadimnagar national park. In 1997, 10 hectares of land in Bomagar and in 2003-04 10 hectares of land in Choragar was also planted with bamboo.

4.1.4 Cane:

Cane plantation was first established in 1961 as undergrowth of Teak plantation in 62 acres. Again in 1991-92 an area of 10 hectares in Charagor was planted with cane species by clear felling the long rotation forest species. In 2004-2005 an area of 10 hectares was planted with cane. Major cane species found in Khadimnagar beat are Golla bet (Daemonorops jenkinsianus) and Jali bet (Calamus tenuis).

4.2 Tillagorh eco-park:

This is also a plantation forest. Total area of Tillagorh eco-park is 112.0 acres. Cane is planted as undergrowth in 89.0 acres. Some areas of the forest were clear felled in several times and again replanted, this is about 56.50 acres, which is mentioned as ‘overlapping’. The forest is now more or less gained a natural state, as the natural regeneration is occurring profoundly in this forest. Major species planted are: Garjan (Dipterocarpus turbinatous), Sal (Shorea robusta), Gamar (Gmelina arborea), Champa (Michelia champaka), Agor (Acquilaria agallocha), Jarul (Lagerstromea speciosa) etc. Golla bet (Daemonorops jenkinsianus) is mostly planted as undergrowth.
