Mangroves are commonly found along shelter coastal lines in the tropics and sub tropics where they fulfill important of environmental function.By the late 1980s, the mangroves were destroyed and the 30 percent of the area is now completely converted to shrimp farms. Decreasing of forest area in the North-east portion of Bangladesh is one of the critical problems in recent years. For these purpose study has been conducted to prepare a mangrove forest cover map and special attention has been taken to detected mangrove forest cover changes of chokoria Sundarbans . Located eastern part of Bangladesh along the coast between 1997 & 2006 using satellite image of Land sat TM. The present investigation reported that the deforestation rate of the study area is a constant and continuous process. It has been found in February 1997 that about only 271.95 ha of poor scrub forest covers are remaining with the forest land. While 2006 shows that almost all the forest vegetation has been removed except some patches of mangrove vegetation on the bank of the channel .Only 123.58 ha of poor scrub forest cover are remaining with the forest land .
