ABSTRACT
The study was conducted in Kulaura and Habiganj-2 forest range, Sylhet Forest Division and Rema kalenga wildlife sanctuary of Habiganj district. It shows that the present stock of trees, status of regeneration and non wood forest products, socio economic status of surrounding people of Kulaura and Habiganj-2 forest range and ecotourism potentiality in Rema kalenga wildlife sanctuary. Multistage random sampling was followed in the study. There exist 11 species under seven families. The dominant family is leguminosae. The dominant species is Akashmoni and Teak in Kulaura and Habiganj-2 forest range respectively. The average density (stem/ha) is 700 and 750 for Akashmoni and Teak respectively. There are 14 species of regeneration belongs to 11 families. Family moraceae dominates containing three species. Dhakijam is the dominant regeneration which shows the best density (3750 seedling/ha). There are 4 different type of bamboos namely muli, mitinga, jai and borua and cane (golla) present in two ranges. Of which muli shows the best performance (5971 culm/ha). In Rema kalenga wildlife sanctuary highest percentage of tourist (45%) was found in 15-25 years age group and about 45 % tourists are student and unmarried. Educational qualification of the maximum (53% in Kulaura and 73% in Habiganj-2) people is primary level in Kulaura and Habiganj-2 range respectively. The income level of 75% respondents is about 4500 taka monthly in Kulaura range and 77% in Habiganj-2 range. Agro farming is the main livelihood activities in both ranges (39% in Kulaura range and 100% in Habiganj-2 range).
